Maverick Beach Program a huge success!
Over 60 athletes learned the finer points of beach volleyball this season in the Maverick Beach League and Young Mavericks programs.
Under the watchful eye of Mav alumnist Alex McLellan, twenty Young Mavericks took to the beach this summer and underwent an intense eight weeks of training. From pokeying to peeling, they covered it all.
"I was happy with everyone's progress this summer" said McLellan. "Beach volleyball is a very different game than indoor volleyball - it highlights your weaknesses and forces you to work on them."
At the other end of the beach, the boys and girls Maverick Beach Leagues were in full swing for the twenty teams that participated. For the first six weeks, teams battled for the top positions in each tier to setup for a strong seeding into the playoffs. The last two weeks were a combination of playoffs and King and Queen of the Beach tournaments.
